University of Toronto

These are the arms of the University of Toronto. They feature a beaver, and the crown of George IV, under whose Royal Charter the university was established. The crest is an oak tree, representing strength and steady growth- the acorns also promise new life. The motto reads, "As a tree with the passage of time" (ie, growth), and comes from the Odes of Horace, Book I, No 12. These arms were granted in 1917. Data taken from the University website.
